The Village Academy 2019 Summer experience is full of unique and innovative summer program offerings! Your child will engage in exciting activities lead by innovative coaches, teachers, and program staff in a safe and nurturing environment.

VA offers Themed Weeks, Athletic Camps, Online Academic Courses, and daily Lil’ Griffie Playdates! Themed weeks are offered in full day or half day sessions for your convenience.

Themed Weekly Sessions

Register for the weekly programs individually or for the entire summer…the choice is yours! Each Full Day session is held weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Half Day option includes sessions from 9 a.m to 12 noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The weekly schedules are listed below:

Let go of my Lego, oh no, not here. Legos abound! This is hands down, Village Academy's favorite activity. We will learn the history, and enjoy the challenges of our favorite brick.

Lil' Griffie Playdates

For the Pre-K (preschoolers), Lil’ Griffie playdates are the perfect fit when you want a day or two versus a week of activities for your child. These specialized Pre-K sessions allow the youngest students the opportunity to enjoy a fun, themed, one day experience certain to ignite their imaginations!  Each playdate theme will coincide with our weekly programs. Cost is $60.00 per day per child.

WEEK 1: June 3-7 DOMINO TOPPLING

Half Day Cost: $225
Grades: 4-9
Domino Toppling simulates teams working together in a fun environment.
Teams plan and test a domino display which is then combined with other teams’ display for the finale. Thorough preparation and attention to detail coupled with great teamwork lead to valuable lessons in engineering, patience and thought processing.

Have an idea? Let's discover what it is worth. Spend this week brainstorming and creating an idea. Then, bring it to life and and learn how to market your creation. Our own panel of judges will decide the winner.

Cupcakes, Cupcakes, Cupcakes! If you love cupcakes and a little friendly competition, this camp is for you! Our chef is just waiting to teach you how to bake cupcakes from scratch in all types of flavors and make homemade frosting! Learn how to decorate cupcakes in a variety of themes that will change daily. Whether you’re competing as an individual or team, this camp will be full of treats!
WEEK 3: June 17 - 21 MOCK TRIAL

Ever wondered what would have happened if the Big Bad Wolf went to trial? We will learn the judicial system while trying a case from a favorite fairy tale.
WEEK 3: June 17 - 21 CONSPIRACIES DEBUNKED

We hear things that sound right, but are they true? We will look at what it takes to seperate fact from fiction and urban legend. Is there a slenderman or shall we find out his true origins? Do butterflies taste with their feet? Let's explore how to find the truth together.

A week of dance taught by Ellie Newman. You will have a great week learning stretches, various dance techniques, and a short dance to perform for family at the end of the week.

Explore the engineering design process with this “scientific sampler,” walking in the footsteps
of a new kind of engineer each day. Using the supplies in the Toolbox, your campers will
experiment with design challenges to build bridges and skyscrapers, design surgical tools, dissect
wind-up toys, and more!

The Little Medical School® offers children the opportunity to learn about medicine, science, and the importance of health in an entertaining, exciting, and fun way. This camp encourages children to do this as they explore the exciting and inspiring world of medicine. Using interactive demonstrations, crafts, and games, children learn how the body and organs work, how to use the instruments that real doctors use, and even tie knots like a real surgeon. Children get their own stethoscope that really works! Students will learn all about and make models of the spine, brain, bones, the exciting eye, and much more. At the end of the week, each student will graduate with a diploma from the Little Medical School®
WEEK 7: July 16-20 THE AMAZING 4 IN 1 ROBOT
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Half Day Cost: $225
Grades: 2-5
Build your own interchangeable robot to take home with four unique modes. It is truly a four-in-one motorized robot kit. Learn how the different gears work as you are building. You will be building the Cricket--a joy on six legs. Build the Beast. It is a master of bipedal movement. You better not get in its way! You will also build the Trailer--the little engine that could move forward thanks to its motorized transmission. Finally, the best of all, Grandpa-Bot Robot. It has huge eyes and is everyone's favorite bobble-headed, gear driven family member. It is easy transforming between the four modes. Gain confidence, self-esteem, and celebrate as you are the architect that built it. Plus, have fun building a wide range of additional robotic designs with the Robotic Building System--Sumo wrestling matches, races and much more. Robots built in this portion of the workshop are not taken home. Have fun, learn, and have hands-on experience, the Sciensational way!
WEEK 7: July 15-19 LITTLE VETERINARIAN SCHOOL
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
FULL Day Cost: $395

Little Veterinarian School®: Healthy Pets are happy pets. This unique program encourages children to role-play and explore the exciting world of Veterinarians. Using interactive demonstrations, crafts and games, kids learn how to take care of a pet and use instruments that real veterinarians use. A preview into our week and topics to be covered, include but not limited to the following:
1. Learning the importance of proper care and nutrition to keep dogs, cats, and guinea pigs healthy.
2. Completing an assessment of a dog and a cat.
3. Knowing what to do if a dog gets hurt and how to care for them.
4. Learning safety rules for being around animals.
5. Discussing what radiographs are and what the light and dark shades mean on a radiograph.
This Summer Camp is a fun and hands on class, where kids will receive their very own adopted pet dog and cat for the week. Each child will receive a diploma as a graduate of Little Veterinarian School® upon completion of the course.
Objectives:
Students will be able to accurately identify and explain the ABCs of Dog Care
Identify and understand how to treat minor wounds and Lacerations
Learn about radiographs
WEEK 7: July 15-19 CODING
1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Half Day Cost: $225
Grades: 3-5
We will be using Swiftplaygrounds to increase student awareness and ability in computer skills. The tools on Swiftplaygrounds are easy to use and are a great way to introduce students to programming. This opportunity to increase computer science literacy will also expose students to information on careers in the tech sector. It is a user friendly drag and drop interface. Our students new to programming would be able to join us as well.
WEEK 8: July 22-26 PHOTOGRAPHY
1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Half Day Cost: $200
Grades: 6-12
Basic camera knowledge and beyond will be learned. Get out of "Auto" and shoot in "Manual" with confidence. Develop your creative eye and polish your visial design skills with this week long course.
WEEK 8: July 22-26 EXTREME MEDICAL SCHOOL
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
FULL Day Cost: $395
Grades: 5-9
Extreme Medical School® We offer a one-of-a-kind learning experience for middle school and high school aged students. This hands-on, in depth experience puts the student in the role of the physician, complete with a white coat and real stethoscope. Through interactive and creative demonstrations, crafts, and projects, students see how the body works and what goes wrong with disease states. Our “student doctors” not only learn how to use a stethoscope, but also they learn what they are hearing when they listen to the heart beat. We discuss why murmurs sound the way they do and they get their first looks at EKG’s. As “student surgeons” they learn how to sew like a real surgeon, tie knots, and do a hernia repair with mesh! In the blood section, they make a model of normal blood, and then see first hand what goes wrong with leukemia and sickle cell disease. We will also focus on the business aspect of Medicine. What does it take to set up and run your own private practice? This is just a sampling of the many exciting topics we will explore during this week. At the end of the weeklong camp course: Students will gain an appreciation and understanding for the human body
Students will learn what it takes to prepare for being a pre-med in college, and learn important tips to be a successful candidate
WEEK 9: July 29- Aug 2 HOVERCRAFT
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Half Day Cost: $225
Grades: 2-5
Do you want to design and build things that you create - not just a model you purchase? Well, this is the place for you! Learn about Laws of Motion, Energy, Air Pressure, Friction, Lift, Speed and Acceleration as you spend a week creating vehicles using our hands-on Sciensational methods. Use your creativity and knowledge to take on the week’s three challenges!

1. Build (and keep) your own air powered Hovercraft. Launch your hovercraft and watch it defy gravity! How creative can you be to control its direction?
2. Create your very own “Super Car” that is powered by more than one energy source. We provide the materials and you create a dynamic vehicle that will make future carmakers envious!
3. Design a gravity vehicle that allows a raw egg to survive an epic fall. Be innovative and creative as you construct a car worthy of the big Egg Drop! Will your egg survive?

Summer Sports

Cost: $175 per student per sports session unless noted.

Tennis
Grades 1 - 8
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Tennis campers will learn the basics and improve skills through guidance and gameplay. They will refine their serves and swings with the encouragement of the coaches.
Camp minimum of 5 participants.

Basketball
Grades 1-5
1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Basketball campers will build skills and perseverance through the fundamentals of basketball. Team play will include shooting, passing, ball handling, defensive maneuvers, rebounding, footwork, and scrimmages.
Camp minimum of 5 participants.

Volleyball
Grades 4-8
1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
This camp is designed for those campers that want to learn the basic skills of volleyball. We will spend time each day, learning the basic concepts of passing, setting, attacking & serving. We will instill good volleyball techniques and assist with the fundamental skills that contribute to becoming a great volleyball player.

Summer Courses for Credits

Village Academy offers students an opportunity to earn academic credit in Health during the summer.  This course is available as online only and offered to Village Academy students as well as students from other districts.  Enrollment is based on the student’s current grade level.  Successful completion of this summer course will earn full credit at Village Academy.  Students from other schools are advised to check with their school concerning the transfer of credit before registering for these courses.  We do not guarantee that earned credits will transfer to all schools, however historically, other schools have accepted these credits.  Please see the course description for session times, credit, and pricing information.  All courses require a minimum of 5 students.

Health Grades 9-12 *ONLINE*
Cost: $250 Credit: .5
June 3 - July 12
This 5 week intensive course is designed to help individuals develop the concept of physical, mental, emotional, and social wellness throughout the stages of life. The course topics consist of the factors contributing to our health, the decision-making process, physical activity effects, nutrition, effective communication, human body systems, development, care and diseases, substance awareness, and injury prevention.

REGISTRATION:

Registration for all Village Academy summer programs will be online only. Visit www.villageacademy.org/summer to register for all 2019 summer program options. Register according to the grade your student will be entering in the fall of 2019.

CONFIRMATION

Following the online registration process, a confirmation will be forwarded via email. Program details and information will be sent to each registered participant two weeks prior to the summer program start date.

THEMED WEEK PROGRAM FEES

Students may register for the entire summer program or for specific program weeks that meet their scheduling needs. Full day weekly sessions are $260.00 and include most activities and trips. Enroll in all 10 weeks of the full day Summer Program and qualify for the discounted price of $2500.00. Half day [morning (9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.) or afternoon (1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.)] weekly sessions are available at $140.00 per week includes most activities and trips. All fees include materials and supplies.

SPECIALTY CAMP PROGRAM FEES

Athletic Program and Speciality Camp fees are priced as shown in the program description. All fees include materials and supplies.

DISMISSAL

Full-time students not enrolled in the Extended Care program must be picked up by 4:00 p.m. Half-Day students not enrolled in the Extended Care program must be picked up by noon for morning enrollees, and 4:00 p.m. for afternoon enrollees. Students, whose parents, guardians, or caregivers are late, will be sent to Extended Care and the late fee policy will be enacted.

EXTENDED CARE

Morning Extended Care from 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. is available at the rate of $35 per week. Afternoon Extended Care from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. is also available at the rate of $35 per week. Extended Care for both mornings and afternoons of full-time participants is available at the rate of $600.00 for the entire Summer Program or $60.00 per week. Late pick-up charges will accrue at the rate of $15.00 every fifteen minutes or portion thereof after the end of the registered session. Students whose parents, guardians, or caregivers are consistently late may be dismissed from the program.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Village Academy Schools reserves the right to cancel any program due to unforeseen circumstances or if minimum enrollments are not achieved. All programs are subject to minimum enrollments. Participants will be notified ten business days in advance if a program is canceled. A full refund will be issued if Village Academy Schools cancels a program. Participants may withdraw from a program up to ten business days before the camp is scheduled to begin and receive a full refund (less a $50.00 administrative fee). Village Academy Schools must receive written notification of withdrawal, either by email or US Mail to the attention of the Summer Program Coordinator within the time frame outlined. Withdrawal within ten business days or less from the start date of the program, or no-show of an enrolled participant, will forfeit paid fees and no refund will be issued. Submitting a Summer Program registration with payment of fees constitutes acceptance of this cancellation policy.

PHOTO RELEASE

Village Academy Schools occasionally takes action pictures of students engaged in the Summer Camp program. Such pictures are used for future promotional materials and publicity purposes. Village Academy Schools will assume no objection to using for publicity purposes of those enrolled in the Summer Camp program unless written refusal of such use is received by the Summer Camp Coordinator.
