Village Academy provides a variety of opportunities for students to perform in drama, dance, and music and believes so strongly in the arts that an entire 12,000 sq ft Arts Conservatory was built on campus to support the program.
In addition to class drama performances, the Village Academy Theatre Department has a number of yearly productions including winter and spring performances, and an biannual all-school production. Past productions include: A Mid Summer Night’s Dream, Oliver!, The Crucible, I Hate Hamlet, A Christmas Carol, OTMA, A Few Good Men, and The Wizard of Oz. Upper School students have opportunities to perform for regional, state, and national audiences such as the annual Ohio Thespian State Conference, and have worked with renowned organizations such as CATCO. The Village Academy Theatre Director is a working actor, engaged in a variety of performances throughout the year and is able to network with various theatre production companies on behalf of the students.
The Village Academy Dance Department offers many opportunities to perform in school-wide and community productions. Student dancers learn from world-class guest choreographers and take master classes in New York City and Chicago, performing in many dance genres including ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, and modern dance. At the highest level, students can audition for the Performance Dance Ensemble, where advanced dancers perform in school productions, at the Powell Festival, and at state competitions. The Village Academy Dance Director is a dancer and choreographer who has worked in the off season in both New York and Los Angeles.
Students involved in the Music Program at Village Academy have many opportunities to perform at school and community events. One of the most exciting School musical events is Jazz Night Out, an annual dinner/music performance which showcases the talent of the award-winning Varsity and Junior Varsity Bands, and includes a variety of solo, group, vocal, and ensemble performances by student musicians and vocalists. The Village Academy Band has performed with industry professionals such as Arnett Howard, Mark Frye, Lee Savory, and Gene Walker, among other entertainment notables. Past performance venues include: Stetson University, Universal Studios and Lake Mary High School in Florida, the Oktoberfest in Columbus, the Powell Festival, and other central Ohio locations.
