All School Spelling Bee Winner Advances to Regionals January 15, 2019 - Village Academy All School Spelling Bee Winner Announced On Tuesday, January 15 the Village Academy All School Spelling Bee took place in the gymnasium. After a long fought battle, 7th grader Emerson Thompson emerged as the winner with 5th grader Shivam Vora as the runner-up.  Congratulations to Emerson and Shivam, and a special shout out to all of the participants. National Merit Commended Student October 3, 2018 - Village Academy is proud to announce that senior, Justin Wells has been named a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of the more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). "These young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success, " commented a spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success." Justin has been at Village Academy since pre-kindergarten. He is a member of the National Honor Society, HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), and plays Varsity Golf. As a Junior, he was the Village Academy representative at the HOBY Leadership conference. MS Cross Country takes Championship October 1, 2018 - VA Cross Country Teams Continue to Excel!  Saturday, September 29, both middle school and upper school cross-country teams participated at the North Union Invitational.  Junior Cuyler Cornell took 5th place with a finish that broke the 2014 record of Alumni Ryan McLoughlin.  (17:38.8 for the 5k course) Sophomore Amelia Cameron won the girls’ varsity race for her third victory of the season in a personal best time of 20:04.2. Cameron Petitt set a new personal best of 12:23.5. He placed 4th in the middle school boys race. The overall highlight of the meet was the middle school girls’ team of Ashley Sallows, Kaitlyn Sallows, Emerson Thompson, Annie White, Alberta Bicknell, Alexa Fischer, and Lilly Vance. The team took the championship over a strong Mount Gilead team and the North Union hosts. Some live right around the corner, others live farther away, but all of our grandparents and grandfriends play a special role in the education of our students. To honor grandparents and grandfriends, Village Academy is planning a special day for students to share their classrooms and participate in fun activities. 2018 Valedictorian May 19, 2018 - Village Academy is pleased to announce senior Nikhil Parail as the Class of 2018 valedictorian. The announcement was made during the Middle and Upper School Academic Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 18. Head of School, Tres Marangoni, had the honor of announcing Nikhil as the valedictorian in the presence of his family, friends, and classmates.  "Our Valedictorian has achieved the highest level of academic prowess in high school.  This year our Valedictorian is like no other. He is also a formidable athlete, an innovator, a leader, a generous soul, a scholar, a friend, brother, and son." Those are the words of Tres Marangoni, Head of School as she introduced the valedictorian for the Class of 2018.  Ms. Marangoni continued with, "Nikhil has a perfect ACT score and is also an AP scholar, which afforded him the opportunity to take advanced coursework at The Ohio State University. He is also known to be elbow deep in intestines at the OSU cadaver lab where his insatiable interest in the human body will lead him to pursue his interest in the medical field. 2018 Ohio Chinese Speech and Essay Contest April 25, 2018 - 2018 Ohio Chinese Speech and Essay Contest The 2018 Ohio K-12th Chinese Speech Contest was held at Cleveland State University on Saturday, April 21. Congratulations to Village Academy second grader,  Landon Stokes for winning 2nd place in the Elementary Division at the Chinese Speech Contest. Additionally, for the 2018 Ohio K-12 Chinese Essay Contest, students submitted their essays last month and received their results on Saturday, Grace Rademacher received a second place award. Abbey Otte received a third-place award, Simon Zimmerman, Nathan Chen, Emerson Thompson, Annie White and Jack Kalnicki all received an Honorable Mention at the Chinese Essay Contest. Congratulations to all the students that participated. Village Academy enjoys sending students to compete in this contest each year and our Griffins continue to be top performers. YK-Grade 3 Read-a-thon April 17, 2018 - YK-Grade 3 Read-a-thon The YK-3rd grade participated in a Read-a-thon last week to raise money for Partners In Conservation through the Columbus Zoo. Today Nala from Partners in Conservation came to share some of the goods Rwandan people make to sell. She also talked with us about the conservation of mountain gorillas and their habitat. Read More
Stinger Visits Village Academy February 14, 2018 - As a result of receiving 2nd place in the Powell "Paint your Plow" contest earlier this year, Stinger, of the Columbus Blue Jackets is visiting the Village Academy campus on Wednesday, February 21. Congratulations Swimmers! February 10, 2018 - The swimmers competed in the first round of the OHSAA Tournament this weekend. All raced very well with the strongest finishes being Olivia Ave earning 14th in the 200 Free and 8th in the 500 Free  as well as the 400 Freestyle Relay.  Competitors in this relay Elise Salisbury, Sara Crawford, Gaby Scott and Olivia Ave which finished 9th. The OHSAA District Championship (for Central/East/South-East) will be this Friday in Athens. The relay was incredibly close as they ranked only one place away from advancing, however; we have Olivia advancing in both the 200 and the 500.   Read More
Mock Trial Competes at Delaware County Courthouse January 29, 2018 - On January 26, a team of 14 Village Academy students traveled to the Delaware County Courthouse to compete in a Mock Trial against other centrally located schools. According to the OCLRE (Ohio Center for Law-Related Education), the Ohio Mock Trial offers an innovative approach to learning about law and how our legal system functions. Guided by teachers and volunteer legal advisors, students participate in an original, unscripted simulated trial written by attorneys. High school students argue both sides of the case in real courtrooms across the state. With 3,500 high school students participating in this statewide event, it is the largest non-athletic competition in Ohio. More than 1,000 teachers and legal professionals volunteer their time and expertise to make this program possible by serving as team legal advisors, case and competition committee members, competition judges and site coordinators. The Village Academy team has been working diligently since last fall for this event and the hours of rehearsing paid off!
