At Village Academy, students are challenged based on their strengths and passions. Unique courses and independent studies are designed according to the expressed interest of the students. Outside of the academic day, Village Academy students take part in a number of award-winning clubs and organizations, performance ensembles, and athletics, with opportunities to participate in regional, state, national, and international competitions. Students also collaborate with industry professionals while participating in internships and programs such as the John Glenn High School Internship Program, HOBY, and the Delaware Youth Leadership Network. Students are not limited to participation in one activity or club, but are encouraged to explore a variety of interests, which helps them to discover their passions.
Village Academy celebrates international diversity within the school community. The School is proud to have a number of international students and faculty members from diverse backgrounds around the world. As a part of the VA experience, there is an annual International Fair where middle and upper school students learn about and celebrate world cultures. At the pre-kindergarten and lower school levels, students participate in community outreach, and share the highlights of various world cultures at events such as Passport to Holidays, and collaborate on globally-themed class projects.
Technology is an integral part of academics at Village Academy. Students are introduced to age-appropriate media beginning at the pre-kindergarten level. Through the 1:1 Laptop Program, middle and upper school students are required to have their own laptop computers as a part of the curriculum. This media integration builds important skills necessary for higher education and future success.
The core of the VA experience is opportunity. Village Academy students enjoy a passion-driven, engaging educational experience based on the Advancement through Mastery approach, and myriad opportunities for social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. Upon graduation, students are self-aware, focused, and prepared for success in higher education and the world.
