On January 26, a team of 14 Village Academy students traveled to the Delaware County Courthouse to compete in a Mock Trial against other centrally located schools.
According to the OCLRE (Ohio Center for Law-Related Education), the Ohio Mock Trial offers an innovative approach to learning about law and how our legal system functions. Guided by teachers and volunteer legal advisors, students participate in an original, unscripted simulated trial written by attorneys. High school students argue both sides of the case in real courtrooms across the state.
With 3,500 high school students participating in this statewide event, it is the largest non-athletic competition in Ohio. More than 1,000 teachers and legal professionals volunteer their time and expertise to make this program possible by serving as team legal advisors, case and competition committee members, competition judges and site coordinators.
The Village Academy team has been working diligently since last fall for this event and the hours of rehearsing paid off! Congratulations to Faith Christy and Max Block for winning Best Attorney, and to Ellie Newman and Elise Salisbury for winning Best Witness.
