2018 Valedictorian May 19, 2018 - Village Academy is pleased to announce senior Nikhil Parail as the Class of 2018 valedictorian. The announcement was made during the Middle and Upper School Academic Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 18. Head of School, Tres Marangoni, had the honor of announcing Nikhil as the valedictorian in the presence of his family, friends, and classmates.  "Our Valedictorian has achieved the highest level of academic prowess in high school.  This year our Valedictorian is like no other. He is also a formidable athlete, an innovator, a leader, a generous soul, a scholar, a friend, brother, and son." Those are the words of Tres Marangoni, Head of School as she introduced the valedictorian for the Class of 2018.  Ms. Marangoni continued with, "Nikhil has a perfect ACT score and is also an AP scholar, which afforded him the opportunity to take advanced coursework at The Ohio State University. He is also known to be elbow deep in intestines at the OSU cadaver lab where his insatiable interest in the human body will lead him to pursue his interest in the medical field. He is President of the National Honor Society- Griffin Chapter and our 2018 Valedictorian."  Nikhil will attend Case Western Reserve University in the fall. Congratulations, Nikhil Parail.
2018 Ohio Chinese Speech and Essay Contest April 25, 2018 - 2018 Ohio Chinese Speech and Essay Contest The 2018 Ohio K-12th Chinese Speech Contest was held at Cleveland State University on Saturday, April 21. Congratulations to Village Academy second grader,  Landon Stokes for winning 2nd place in the Elementary Division at the Chinese Speech Contest. Additionally, for the 2018 Ohio K-12 Chinese Essay Contest, students submitted their essays last month and received their results on Saturday, Grace Rademacher received a second place award. Abbey Otte received a third-place award, Simon Zimmerman, Nathan Chen, Emerson Thompson, Annie White and Jack Kalnicki all received an Honorable Mention at the Chinese Essay Contest. Congratulations to all the students that participated. Village Academy enjoys sending students to compete in this contest each year and our Griffins continue to be top performers. Because of the outstanding performance of all our students, the Competition Organizing Committee also awarded a trophy to our school. Congratulations Griffins! #GriffinPride  
YK-Grade 3 Read-a-thon April 17, 2018 - YK-Grade 3 Read-a-thon The YK-3rd grade participated in a Read-a-thon last week to raise money for Partners In Conservation through the Columbus Zoo. Today Nala from Partners in Conservation came to share some of the goods Rwandan people make to sell. She also talked with us about the conservation of mountain gorillas and their habitat.
Stinger Visits Village Academy February 14, 2018 - As a result of receiving 2nd place in the Powell "Paint your Plow" contest earlier this year, Stinger, of the Columbus Blue Jackets is visiting the Village Academy campus on Wednesday, February 21. The 1st-5th graders will be participating in a Hockey clinic that afternoon as well!  Stinger will visit the Pre-K and K classes to say hello and pose for a few pictures!
Congratulations Swimmers! February 10, 2018 - The swimmers competed in the first round of the OHSAA Tournament this weekend. All raced very well with the strongest finishes being Olivia Ave earning 14th in the 200 Free and 8th in the 500 Free  as well as the 400 Freestyle Relay.  Competitors in this relay Elise Salisbury, Sara Crawford, Gaby Scott and Olivia Ave which finished 9th. The OHSAA District Championship (for Central/East/South-East) will be this Friday in Athens. The relay was incredibly close as they ranked only one place away from advancing, however; we have Olivia advancing in both the 200 and the 500.  
Mock Trial Competes at Delaware County Courthouse January 29, 2018 - On January 26, a team of 14 Village Academy students traveled to the Delaware County Courthouse to compete in a Mock Trial against other centrally located schools. According to the OCLRE (Ohio Center for Law-Related Education), the Ohio Mock Trial offers an innovative approach to learning about law and how our legal system functions. Guided by teachers and volunteer legal advisors, students participate in an original, unscripted simulated trial written by attorneys. High school students argue both sides of the case in real courtrooms across the state. With 3,500 high school students participating in this statewide event, it is the largest non-athletic competition in Ohio. More than 1,000 teachers and legal professionals volunteer their time and expertise to make this program possible by serving as team legal advisors, case and competition committee members, competition judges and site coordinators. The Village Academy team has been working diligently since last fall for this event and the hours of rehearsing paid off! Congratulations to Faith Christy and Max Block for winning Best Attorney, and to Ellie Newman and Elise Salisbury for winning Best Witness.
VA Josh Stith Alumni Game this Saturday! January 18, 2018 - The Village Academy Josh Stith Alumni Game is scheduled for this SATURDAY, JANUARY 20 in the VA Gymnasium. We will begin a bit earlier than previously noted. VA Theatre Ensemble to Perform at Ohio Thespian State Conference October 24, 2017 - The Village Academy Theatre Ensemble has been invited by the Board of Directors of the Ohio Educational Theatre Association to perform On the Verge during the Ohio Thespian State Conference at Northmont HS in March 2018. The VA theatre performed On the Verge in October of this year to a sold out crowd! The State Conference brings in over 1,500 Thespians from across Ohio for an unforgettable weekend of celebrating the arts to include workshops in playwriting, puppetry, dance, and college auditions.  Throughout the weekend, carefully selected high schools are given the opportunity to perform for an audience of over 200 guests! We are proud that this is the second year that VA’s Theatre Ensemble has been invited to participate in this exciting event!
8th Graders Participate in Young Adult Unfinished StoryBox Project October 16, 2017 - The 8th grade Language Arts students at Village Academy were selected as ambassadors for the Young Adult Unfinished StoryBox Project. This organization began in 1995 where students receive story starters from published authors and finish the piece in the style of their chosen author. Over the years, thousands of stories have been written and told! On Sunday, October 15, VA students participated in the launch of the StoryBox. They joined hundreds of national and international Middle School participants in sharing and telling stories. What a great way for the 8th grade LA students to make an impression in the literary world!
VA Golf Competes in Sectionals September 27, 2017 - Congratulations to the VA Golf Team - Justin Wells, Johnathan Uptegraph, Jake Morgan, Cyrus Benis, and Mateen Afkhami  - competed on Tuesday, September 26 in the Division III OHSAA sectional golf tournament hosted by Darby Creek Golf Course. The team improved by 17 strokes over last year to place fifth in the tournament.  Despite a rough start, this team overcame adversity and extreme heat to play an amazing back nine. It was such a great season for these extraordinary young men. We are proud of the dedication these 5 players have exemplified over the entire golf season. #GriffinPride #IamaGriffin
